What a Journey!
Recently our Year 6 have been on a visit to Holdenhurst Sewage Treatment works to learn
about the science of what happens when we flush our toilets. As a result the year 6 children
have been asked to write a short story based on the adventures of ‘Suzy Sweetcorn’.
The Adventures of Suzy Sweetcorn
It was one hot summers day, as the sweetcorn were moving and talking. I had nothing to do
apart from lying down or sleeping. Then suddenly a strange noise filled my ears. A noise of
rumbling and humming. All the other sweetcorn were shouting, screaming and unlocking
themselves, but I, Suzi was trapped! I was lifted up with all my little friends hooked tightly
against me. We were dragged and dropped into a truck ready to go to the nearest Pizza Hut.
The truck stopped and turned off the engine. I was carried to the warmth of the
building. Nervously and scared the other grains were chopped of the main body and sprinkled
on the pizza. Sadly I was first. I landed with a bump on the soft dough. The next thing I knew
was being shoved into a burning oven!
After a while we were taken out by a strange man and served on a plate to be eaten. A drink
next to me gave me company and said that it wasn’t that bad. Then from out of the blue a giant
knife sliced through the pizza making a triangular shape. I was lifted up, up, up into the air. I
gazed at a gaping mouth with shining white gnashers ready to devour my tiny little body. But
know I was plummeted into darkness without a single glint. Then I was slowly falling down,
Suddenly I landed with a plop into something soggy. P**! 5 hours later I began to slide
somewhere. The blinding light filled my eyes. I plopped out into the toilet ready to be flushed.
Weeeeeeeeeeee! I flew down the loo faster than a lightning bolt. Down I went and then
splash. I made it to the sewers but then I was being dragged away by the powerful
current. Then suddenly I fell head first into a black rusty skip. Then I was taken out and turned
into fertilizer and transported to the farm to be sprinkled on the green slopes. Here I was relived
and happy that I was back on the ground next to my friends. Wow what an amazing adventure I
