Iron Age day
On Wednesday November 8th, fortunately Year 3 enjoyed an informative Iron age day with Matt Russell.
Starting the day
Firstly, we all walked into the hall for assembly. Matt told us all about the Iron Age.
Warriors, fighting and weapons
The main part of the assembly was under the above title. We were told about when you were given weapons. We found out when you were 3 or 4 you were given a slingshot and when you were a bit older you were given a javelin [a mini spear]. The next step up was a spear and then a sword and shield. The Chief and champion had the best ones. Also, ‘torcs’ were presented as a sign of your status. Did you know that the Chief was too important to carry her own shield?!
After assembly, we went to 3R to design and colour shields. They looked fantastic!
After lunch, we returned to the hall for battle…well, not real battle but we held non-sharp javelins and were running up to coloured targets and hitting them or hitting punch bags on the floor with batons.
A massive thank you to Mrs Ramsden for organising this fantastic day and all the other year 3 teachers for getting Matt Russell to come in for this wonderful day.
