On Monday 25th March 2019 our local bat rescuers, Sally and Rita, came to inform us about the importance of these iconic mammals. Sally and Rita bought in five including: two pipistrelle bats one long eared and two noctule bats. They told us many interesting facts about bats; what they ate; their breeding season; the oldest bat and the habitat and homes of these creatures.
Amazingly, Molly [a long eared bat] was brought into our school for our interest in bats. Seeing how calm these animals were inspired us to start to plan and eventually write a story of our own about a baby bat afraid of the dark! All of these bats were extremely well behaved and very calm and didn’t fly around. Sally and Rita were amazing at keeping these bats calm and talking about these animals. We enjoyed having these creatures at our school and we are now aware of what to do when a bat is in need. Thank you Rita and Sally.
