Extra Curricular Music Activities
There are a whole host of extra-curricular activities available at Upton Junior School that are all free of charge:
The pupils are very keen to expand their musical knowledge beyond their main music lessons and many request to continue their learning/composing/performing in the music bungalow during break and lunchtimes.
There are lots of opportunities for pupils to perform and showcase their musical talent throughout the year. They could perform in assembly (main, achievement, or their own class assembly) there are also several Christmas music events, opportunities at Easter and then the Summer Music concert.
Every year we join with other schools from the Pyramid to take part in a celebration of instrumentalists and performers. Lots of children get involved with the Pyramid Music day in the spring where children from different schools across the pyramid join together at Lytchett Minster School and rehearse and then perform pieces of music they have learnt. The schools usually learn parts separately and then on the day, all the parts are put together to make one large ensemble. There is usually a woodwind/brass group and then a strings group (which includes guitars). Drummers are usually encouraged to help out with the rhythm section as well.
In the Summer, pupils from each school in the pyramid join once more at Lytchett Minster where they take part in the Pyramid Music Competition. Each school hosts 'heats' in which the children audition for the contest. Then comes the tough part...... The judges at the heats then have to choose only two acts that they think should go through to the final (to perform on the stage at the Gainsford Theatre, Lytchett Minster School). The School choir usually performs at the final concert. This year, they joined with other school choirs to form one huge choir and performed together.
