The Maths Challenge!
At 1:00pm on Tuesday 3rd November Kaitlyn Hathaway, Marco Maggi, Millie Sewell and Jack Stone went to The Maths Challenge at Bournemouth Collegiate Preparatory School in Poole.
When we got to Bournemouth Collegiate Preparatory the car park was small and there weren’t any spaces. So we went to the end of the road to park.
Once we got there by walking, we had to get registered in the office. A girl called Zoey led us into their hall to understand what we will be doing in The Maths Challenge.
In the gigantic hall, there were around 30 different schools (120 students). We were then given a card that had your table number on so we went to the other room and stood near our table. We had seven different challenges which were: dominos, tangrams, cards, catch the train, broken calculator shopping spree and bonuses challenge.
For the shopping spree we had to add up the same amounts or different amounts of money. We had to place tangrams in the shapes for the tangram round. Marco and Kaitlyn were the first ones to finish. For catch the train, we had to find the difference between two times or find the train they needed to get on. After catch the train, we completed the dominoes task which meant there was a laminated piece of paper on your table with numbers on and you had to match up the dominoes with the paper. The card challenge had some sentences and you had to figure out how to put the cards in the right order then your marker would come and check if it was right.
Then we had the broken calculators which is where some numbers show up and you have to figure out how to solve by deciding what operations to use.
After the big, hard maths challenge we all had a delicious pizza and drink.
