Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Mrs Stacey had the pleasure of taking a small group of girls to a Swimming Gala at Canford School. After they had got over the shock of the amazing facilities, the girls performed really well against nine other East Dorset schools. The results included 3rd in the Yr6 25m Butterfly and 4th in the Yr5 50m Freestyle. Needless to say, we are very proud of the girls’ achievements.
The Netball Tournament
On the 17th of January Miss Tinsley took 16 children to a netball tournament at Lychett Minster School.
When we arrived at the school, we did a warm up and got into the courts for our first match of the tournament. We were split into two teams yellow and blue. The first match that the blues played was against Lytchett reds. we won against them 3-1 Unfortunately the yellows lost against the Blacks for Lychett.
The second match that was played on the two courts was Upton blues and Lychett Blacks. Upton yellows played Lychett reds and sadly lost but Upton blues lost as well.
As it came to the end of the tournament we had to play Upton vs Upton and Lychett vs Lychett. Upton blues won and Lychett blacks won.
We were told by the head of PE at the manor who came where on the leaderboard.4TH was Upton Yellows, 3RD was Lychett Reds, 2RDwas Upton Blues and 1ST came Lychett Blacks.
Thank you to miss Tinsley and everyone who made this happen. Plus everyone that participated in the tournament.
Thank you Miss Tinsley!!!!!

The Year 6 Tambourine Band, once again bought joy and smiles to residents of Burwood nursing home in Broadstone. Along with solo performers, the musicians, led by Mrs Clapcott, performed a mix of Christmas songs and Carols. Once more, the musicians of Upton Junior School are out and about spreading Christmas cheer! congratulations to all involved for fantastic effort and work in the extended community. Many thanks to Mr Williams for sorting transport and support.
It’s the most wonderful (but very busy) time of the year for musicians at Upton Junior School! Pupils involved with the Choir & Tambourine Band, as well as several soloists enjoyed opportunities to perform both in the community as well as in our own school hall.
On 24th November they performed for the ‘Young at Hearts’ for their annual Christmas party at St Dunstan’s Church hall. Further concerts on Monday 5th December were the Community Christmas concert in our hall to residents from local nursing homes, and our annual Christmas Music Concert to parents and family.
To conclude the festive performances, on Thursday 8th December, the Choir sang Carols at Upton Cross; alongside Upton Infants School and accompanied by The Salvation Army. Thank you to all those involved for their enthusiasm and huge amount of effort in rehearsals and performances. Have a well-deserved restful Christmas break!
It’s been a busy half term in the Sporting Calendar. Mr Startin has already taken the girls Football Team to a tournament and the Running Club to Sandbanks; they ran 1.5 miles along the seafront! All children involved thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Mrs Stacey had the pleasure of taking six year 6 children to Poole High School to train as
Bronze Ambassadors. The day was an energising mix of planning and learning new games that can be passed on to other children at our school. Harley, Harry and Tom from 6L, Sasha and Kelsey from 6D and Haddy from 6S were a credit to the school and are very keen to implement the new ideas that they have!
On Thursday and Friday, the year 6 group went to the water works treatment centre in Holdenhurst
(Bournemouth) to learn how they treat our sewage and waste.
Once we arrived most of the year group were complaining about the stench and were saying they will
never come here to work. Duncan and Pete (the instructors) showed us around, once we settled down
they started to talk about how the water cycle worked and how they enhanced dirty waste into drinkable liquid.
As soon as Duncan and Pete told us all about the information, we went outside on a tour around the
sewage works. Some of the children were still complaining about the smell, but the others were now
enjoying the trip, by now we were at the end of the tour.
We went back to the classroom to have lunch (YUMMY). After lunch, we did a test on what we learned about. Following on that, we did an experiment. All the children really liked the trip and most of us wanted to go again. Thank you for the trip Duncan and Pete!
